youth . by daughter

i discovered Daughter whilst watching her perform 'black flies' with one of my favourite song writers, Ben Howard on youtube. the collaboration of the two artists was captivating. youth, reflects an emotion that holds each one of us up or can tear us apart. i still cannot stop listening to the hypnotising sound she makes and performs with such elegance. i have recently found myself in a place where this song pin points every emotion that i have. the ones that can hold on to love really are the 'lucky ones'

this song is clearly defined by the use of poetry, anticipated sounds and reflection of emotion. when i first heard the guitar riff at the beginning i knew this song would have a deep quality. Elena Tonca aka Daughter writes beautiful lyrics whilst singing with a complimentary tone. "collecting names of the lovers that went wrong," "most of us are breathing through corrupted lungs" the anticipated rhythms on the drums and the call and response of the electric guitar are both captivating. the song is so simple yet difficult to perform.

it is really refreshing to see a young female in the spotlight for all the right reasons. she is operating her own dream and sounds in a way that is cool, and real. her sound and attitude towards music reminds me of an artist called Bon Iver which i will post about soon. another one of her songs that i listen to as much as this one is 'medicine'

the youtube clip attached is Daughter performing youth in St Giles in the fields church in London, defiantly worth watching.

"we are the reckless we are the wild youth"
